Index. décimale : 72 Architecture Note de contenu : Für die Grundinstandsetzung der Neuen Nationalgalerie standen David Chipperfield Architects Berlin vor der Herausforderung, soviel wie möglich von Mies van der Rohes ikonischem Original aus den 1960er-Jahren zu erhalten und die filigrane Stahl-Glas-Fassade gleichzeitig an heutige technische Anforderungen anzupassen. Ein schwieriges Unterfangen, das durch sorgfältige Recherche und minutiös entwickelte Details gelingt. Im Sommer 2021 soll das Gebäude am Kultur­forum in Berlin wieder eröffnen, in unserem Technik-Beitrag erläutert Julia Liese die Details der Sanierung. Weitere aktuelle Beispiele in unserer Oktober-Ausgabe zu Außenhüllen führen Sie von Berlin nach Marseille und von Antwerpen nach Vorarlberg. Kaleidoskopartig spiegelt sich die Umgebung des Berliner Hauptbahnhofs in der Fassade des neuen Bürogebäudes von 3XN. Unterschiedlich geneigte ­Glasdreiecke umhüllen den kubischen Solitär und lassen Luft in den Fassadenzwischenraum strömen. Für den Wohnturm L’Arbre Blanc in Marseille war ein Baumstamm mit Ästen die Leitidee der Architekten. Luftige Balkone, die bis zu 7 m aus der weißen Trapezblechfassade auskragen, bestimmen das Erscheinungsbild des Gebäudes und sorgen für Sonnenschutz. Die Plattformen im Freien sind jeweils einer Wohneinheit zugeordnet und bei den Maisonetten über Treppen miteinander ­verbunden. Auch in Höchst am Bodensee ist die Verschattung eine maßgebliche Funktion der Fassade: Die homogene ­Außenhülle der pavillonartigen Werkhalle besteht aus Weiß­tannen­lamellen, die das Tageslicht filtern und die Innenräume gemeinsam mit dem durchgehenden Holzvordach vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung schützen. For this issue’s review of the year, they describe their architectural observations in places like Jerusalem, Berlin, and Montagnana, Italy. Together, their discoveries form a kaleidoscope of surprises and thought-provoking insights. And so do our interviews with the architects of the winning projects of the Detail Award 2022. Are we indeed on the verge of a turning point that will ­fundamentally transform architecture? For Markus Zilker of Einzueins Architektur, who designed the Gleis 21 housing project, winning the Detail award is a call to action: “We must become much more effective if we want comprehensive social and ecological transformation,” says the Vienna-based architect. Our Documentation section focuses on this issue’s main theme of building envelopes. It highlights projects that have, each in their own way, already set out on the path to a new architectural era – also in terms of their construction details. The barely visible roof was secondary; its significance was to be rehabilitated with the designation fifth facade. At the latest after the introduction of Google Earth and the increasing use of camera drones, this understanding has been reversed. Today, the vertical view, i.e. the roof, is often the first impression we have of buildings. In the current issue, we show less spectacular examples that have one thing in common: They are in the context of historic roofs. Dietrich Untertrifaller's wide overhanging wooden roof ducks into the landscape within sight of Munich's Olympic tent, as does the extension to Sanaa's Sydney Modern art museum overlooking Jørn Utzon's opera house. Both simple yet distinctive flat roofs are easy to find on Google Earth. But they reveal their real quality inside: Light, freshness and generosity.
