Vol.2016:N°1/2 - 2016-01-01 - Bauen mit Holz = Timber Construction = Construire en bois (Bulletin de Detail : Zeitschrift für Architecktur + Baudetail)

Titre : Vol.2016:N°1/2 - 2016-01-01 - Bauen mit Holz = Timber Construction = Construire en bois Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 2016 Langues : Allemand (ger) Anglais (eng) Catégories : Constructions en bois Index. décimale : 72 Architecture Résumé : As the demands placed on environmentally sound construction increase, wood – a renwable resource – is undoubtedly gaining significance. New areas of application have emerged, and the material is being employed with increasing frequency in urban settings. In this issue we present an urban residence in Amsterdam by meesvisser.
The pre-school in Lugano by Bruno Fioretti Marquez Architekten exemplifies modular building with a high degree of prefabrication. New jointing techniques and materials, in combination with other materials, open up new possibilities both with regard to load-bearing structure and design. Moreover, as demonstrated by a boathouse in Chile and the European School in Frankfurt, mixing different types of wood is no longer taboo.En ligne : http://www.detail-online.com/magazine/timber-construction-26708/?L=1%2Ftypo3conf [...] [n° ou bulletin] Vol.2016:N°1/2 - 2016-01-01 - Bauen mit Holz = Timber Construction = Construire en bois [texte imprimé] . - 2016.

published 10/01/2016
Over the past 25 years, the world of architecture has witnessed many changes. Two and a half decades ago, Zaha Hadid had realized none of her powerful structures. In Japan, Tadao Ando had just achieved an international breakthrough with his Church of the Light in Ibaraki, and Foster had still not set his dome on the Reichstag building in Berlin. In the early 1990s, nobody spoke of “sustainable building” and certainly not of “BIM”.
The world of professional journals was quite different, too. The internet was not a rival medium. The first computers were only just beginning to appear in editorial offices, and the precise drawings found in DETAIL were still being neatly rendered in ink on tracing paper. In those days, the very small editorial team worked on six issues of the journal a year plus a Construction Manual every two or three years. Today, roughly 15 books are produced annually as well as many more journals, including “Concept” and “Green”, “Inside” and “Structure”.
After being responsible for the content of DETAIL for 25 years, the time has now come for me to hand over the reins. This is the final issue of which I shall be editor-in-chief, and I should like to thank readers for the great trust they have shown. The high degree of recognition we have gained for our work – on an international level, too – has always been a tremendous spur for me and the entire editorial team. I shall not be taking my leave entirely, however, for my links with DETAIL will be maintained in the form of further contributions I shall make from time to time. Christian Schittich

Verre en décoration architecturaleIndex. décimale : 72 Architecture Résumé : published 11/01/2016
Clear, transparent, and democratic. These were the axioms of Germany’s postwar architecture. Transparency had a symbolic meaning for the country’s new public buildings. In 1961, for example, Baden-Württemberg’s new state parliament building was the first such institution to be completed after the war; all of its facades were completely glazed. Günter Behnisch’s lofty, daylit plenary assembly hall in the German Bundestag in Bonn also served as an example of an open society. Federal legislators convened there until 1999, when the government moved to Berlin.
Transparency and democracy were synonymous. In this issue we present different contemporary manifestations of transparency. The projects are located in France, Estonia, China, and Germany and range from chapels and apartment houses to museums and departmental buildings at universities; they have transparent and translucent facades, narrow operable sashes, and carefully orchestrated views to the surroundings.
As DETAIL’s new editor-in-chief, I look forward to keeping in touch with you via this Editorial column. Our experienced team will continue to present you timely topics – as in the past, architecture itself will show the way. Our next issue, which appears on December 1, explores applications of colour in architecture. Couleur en architectureIndex. décimale : 72 Architecture Résumé : Some places or epochs are identified with certain colours: Siena for example, which lent its name to yellowish-brown pig-ments, or the Habsburg era with its Imperial yellow. Tel Aviv, has its White City – a UNESCO World Heritage site designed by Jewish architects who studied at the Bauhaus. White is the colour identified with the Modern Movement, of course, but the coloured interiors of the masters’ houses in Dessau by Walter Gropius show that not everything was reduced to that hue.
There are probably just as many colour theories as there are colour tones; but the streets in our towns and cities are rarely characterized by a consistent colour scheme. In this respect, the materials and their surface finishes play a dominant role. In our December issue, we present various architectural concepts that focus on the effects of colour. For example, the Sparren-burg Visitors’ Centre in Bielefeld with its tamped concrete facades enters into a dialogue with the historical surroundings, while the polychrome glazing of Sauerbruch Hutton’s office building in London forms a deliberate counterpoint to the urban environment. As one can see, architecture has to come to terms with colour. There is no such thing as neutrality.En ligne : http://www.detail-online.com/magazine/colour-materials-finishes-29002/ [n° ou bulletin] Vol.2016:N°12 - 2016-12-01 - Farbe Material Oberfläche = Colour Materials Finishes [texte imprimé] . - 2016.
