Doch es kam anders. Heute gibt es eine regelrechte Renaissance des Holzbaus, der vielerorts auch Einzug in Städte hält. Immer mehr und immer höhere Gebäude werden aus Holz gebaut. Außerdem entstehen die unterschiedlichsten Gebäudetypologien aus dem nachwachsenden Material – auch Industriebauten, Museen oder Sporthallen. Vom Klischee kleiner Einfamilienhäuser auf dem Land haben sich Holzbauten jedenfalls längst befreit. Dank neuer Technologien und Konstruktionsmethoden ist Holz zu einem sehr beliebten Baustoff geworden – ressourcenschonend und mit einer vielversprechenden Zukunft. Nichts lag vor diesem Hintergrund näher, als mit einer Ausgabe zum Bauen mit Holz ins neue Jahr zu starten. Mit dem Schwerpunkt in unserem Januar / Februar-Heft greifen wir ein Thema auf, das uns schon länger beschäftigt – zum Beispiel im Rahmen des »Atlas Mehrgeschossiger Holzbau«, der kürzlich bei Edition Detail erschien. Die aktuelle Ausgabe widmet sich weiteren Facetten des Holzbaus: Unser Redakteur Jakob Schoof erläutert in einem Essay seine Verbreitung und Tradition in europäischen Städten sowie in Kanada. Der Technik-Beitrag gibt Einblicke in ein Forschungsprojekt, das die Prozesse des vorgefertigten Holzbaus untersucht. Insgesamt sieben Dokumentationen, die Heide Wessely ebenso wie das gesamte Heft für Sie zusammengestellt hat, zeigen die Konstruktionsdetails zu aktuellen Holzbauprojekten in Japan, Chile und anderen Ländern. Mit dem Holzbau-Schwerpunkt in der ersten Ausgabe 2018 greifen wir eine Tradition auf – und zeigen neue Aspekte in einem Heft mit neuem Gesicht. Ab sofort ist unsere Zeitschrift durchgängig zweisprachig, alle Texte samt den Produktmeldungen sind deutsch und englisch. Detail wird also internationaler – unsere Themen sind dies ohnehin längst. With the advent of this new landmark on the River Elbe in North Germany, one registers an increase in the general esteem for stage structures. Nowadays their cultural significance is no longer called in question; it is appreciated instead. In the public perception, buildings of this kind everywhere have assumed a status that was formerly reserved for museums. In the March issue of Detail, we present concepts for auditoriums and open-air theatres, congress centres and large opera houses. The one thing they all have in common, of course, is a stage – sometimes larger, sometimes smaller and sometimes even variable in size. The examples we include here, from Swabia to North Jutland, from Canada and China, allow a comparison of typological aspects; for example, questions of access and circulation and the layout of the individual halls. In the two longer “Process” contributions, which describe the Music Forum in Bochum and the Auditorium and Congress Centre in Plasencia, Spain, we investigate concrete issues involving the acoustics and planning. Stage structures are public places where people gather and feel at home. In Bochum, Bez+Kock Architects have succeeded in reactivating a 19th-century neo-Gothic church for this purpose. And in the Extremadura in Spain, a new auditorium by José Selgas and Lucía Cano has caught the attention of the public for the first time in this context in a remote location where such an audience did not previously exist. These, too, are aspects with which we have been keenly concerned in the editorial team. With the advent of this new landmark on the River Elbe in North Germany, one registers an increase in the general esteem for stage structures. Nowadays their cultural significance is no longer called in question; it is appreciated instead. In the public perception, buildings of this kind everywhere have assumed a status that was formerly reserved for museums. In the March issue of Detail, we present concepts for auditoriums and open-air theatres, congress centres and large opera houses. The one thing they all have in common, of course, is a stage – sometimes larger, sometimes smaller and sometimes even variable in size. The examples we include here, from Swabia to North Jutland, from Canada and China, allow a comparison of typological aspects; for example, questions of access and circulation and the layout of the individual halls. In the two longer “Process” contributions, which describe the Music Forum in Bochum and the Auditorium and Congress Centre in Plasencia, Spain, we investigate concrete issues involving the acoustics and planning. Stage structures are public places where people gather and feel at home. In Bochum, Bez+Kock Architects have succeeded in reactivating a 19th-century neo-Gothic church for this purpose. And in the Extremadura in Spain, a new auditorium by José Selgas and Lucía Cano has caught the attention of the public for the first time in this context in a remote location where such an audience did not previously exist. These, too, are aspects with which we have been keenly concerned in the editorial team.
